The Ukrainian Mosaic Orchestra was organized to perpetuate a unique style of music recognized and loved world wide. Formed in 1995 as a California nonprofit public benefit corporation for the study and performance of music written and arranged for traditional Ukrainian and East European folk instruments. The orchestra has performed either as a full orchestra or through its various ensembles throughout the western U.S. including the cities of Seattle, Portland, Reno, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Huntington Beach, San Diego, Tucson, Phoenix, Los Vegas and others. The orchestra’s professional directors and arrangers are Iryna Orlova and Anatoliy Mamalyga who are both graduates of the famed Ukrainian National Academy of Music formerly known as the Kyiv State Conservatory.

The Ukrainian Mosaic Orchestra’s goal and purpose is to educate the public through instruction, performance, and research. The Orchestra itself consists of 40 musicians interested in Ukrainian and East European folk instruments and their unique sound. The Orchestra prepares new material each year and performs in “Grand” concert style with featured honored artists brought by the Orchestra from Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa or in “Full Concert” with featured world class artists who now live in the Southern California area. The organization also presents programs in “Ensemble” style consisting of smaller groups of two, three, five or ten as the program hosts require. Additionally, the Orchestra’s music director, Iryna Orlova, has developed and teaches music appreciation programs for children.
